Saint Panteleimon came from Nicomedia in Asia Minor. He lived and martyred during the reign of Maximian (286-305 AD). He trained in medicine and was initiated into the Christian faith by Ermolaos the Elder, a priest of the Church of Nicomedia. He was known for his miracles from the strength of his faith which became the reason why he martyred and died, after having convinced all the soldiers, present at his martyrdom, to believe in Christ. When the executioner plunged the sword to cut off the Saint's head, the sword bent and the iron melted like wax. It is said that milk gushed from his wound and the olive tree he was chained to blossomed unexpectedly.
