A fisherman, like his brother Andrew, Peter lived in Capernaum and got married. He was present at the wedding at Cana and followed Jesus along with the other disciples. Peter is said to be the one who urged the other Apostles to choose Judas 'replacement after Jesus' Ascension. Saint Peter and the other eleven Apostles, on the day of Pentecost, spoke to the gathered crowd and baptized 3,000 Christians. He founded the Church of Antioch; he baptized and ordained bishops, traveled to Sicily and ended up in Rome, where he ordained St. Linus, the first bishop of the Roman capital. He remained in Rome to be crucified, instigated by Christ himself, who appeared before him marching to Rome with a cross. On the site of martyrdom and death (64 AD or 67 AD) a magnificent Basilica da San Costantino was built. His tomb is located under the central table of the presbytery of the Cathedral of St. Peter in the Vatican.
