Disciple of Jesus and keeper of the Mother of God at her Dormition, apostle of love, John, son of Zebedee and Salome and younger brother of St. Jacob, was initially a disciple of John the Baptist. In his writings he constantly referred to love and its power, confirming it with every action of his life. He followed Jesus without hesitation or fear until his Ascension. He wrote the 4th consecutive Gospel of the New Testament, the Gospel of love, three general letters and the Apocalypse. He lived to be 100 years old and slept peacefully in AD 105. The phrase "People, love one another" is the one that is firmly tied to his name. His memory is celebrated on May 8 and September 26.
