He was born in Tarsus of Cilicia of Jewish parents. His father was a Roman citizen and probably a Pharisee of religion. Saint Paul studied the Greek language and learned about Greek civilization. He became a pupil of Gamaliel and studied Jewish theology thoroughly. He is referred to as a cruel persecutor of the Christian religion, until Christ revealed himself to him on the way to Damascus and thereafter was convinced that Jesus was resurrected and ascended into heaven as the Son of God. He wrote half of the books of the New Testament and became a supporter and supporter of the universality of Jesus' teaching. According to tradition, Paul was beheaded (66 AD or 68 AD) without being tortured, because the law prohibited the torture of Roman citizens. He is considered the first Christian theologian, the first after the One.
