One of the most popular icons of the Virgin Mary holding Child is an inspiration and creation for the Renaissance painter and prominent Rethymno hagiographer, Emmanuel Tzanes, representative of the Cretan school. The picture was painted in 1651 and is kept in the Holy Monastery of Hypapanti, in Corfu.
